The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has cautioned the Federal Government and organizers of the planned protest against hunger and bad governance to tread carefully to avoid anarchy. CAN President, Most Rev Daniel Okoh, acknowledged the right to protest but warned against escalating the situation, emphasizing that Nigeria’s problems are not insurmountable.
Okoh expressed hope that the country’s challenges can be overcome, citing examples from history and scripture. He encouraged Nigerians to explore alternative means of expressing grievances, such as dialogue, petitions, and town hall meetings, to avoid risking disorder.
CAN urged the government to address pressing concerns, cut the cost of governance, and alleviate hardships. The association also called for the implementation of the newly approved national minimum wage to provide immediate relief to struggling families.
Furthermore, Okoh emphasized the need to address the opulent lifestyle of political office holders, demonstrating sincerity in improving living conditions. By doing so, the government can work towards finding solutions to Nigeria’s challenges and avoiding further unrest.
