Residents of Abeokuta, Jezza and Chief Olubode Close have demanded Ikeja Distribution Company to include them in the current metering programme by the provision of the new pre-paid meter system; this is coming from the heels that majority of the streets around and beyond has been provided with the meter and they wondered why their streets are not included despite been very close to the IKEDC office in Gowon Estate.
When our correspondent visited the IKEDC office Gowon, one of the staff who spoke on the condition of anonymity said he is surprised that the meters are yet to be installed as he said that all the meters have brought for these affected streets. In what seem to be the reason though not confirmed, a resident who claimed to be close to them (IKEDC staff) said it is deliberate as they are usually using these streets to raise money for themselves when they are broke. He claimed to have witnessed an occasion when a senior staff asked his boys to go to No 17 of Olubode street to harass them in the guise to disconnect them from source as the house has been marked as notorious debtors. The installation of these pre-paid meters will mark an end to this quick means of income but in our quest to balance the story our correspondent visited the Ponle office with the hopes of getting more facts on the matter but unable to meet with the authorised personnel to speak on the matter but a staff who refuse to say her name said such can never be the case that the Gowon unit does not have powers to withhold the installations if truly they are ready but cited that the case is usually from transformer or sometimes if there is a major repairs that needed to be done before the installation.
