The leader of Atiku Campaign Movement Worldwide (ACMW) Barrister Segun Michael has criticized the searching of the Peoples’ Democratic Party presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar by agents of the state at the Nnamdi Azikiwe international Airport on Sunday morning upon his arrival from Dubai.
This follows the announcement of the incident on Twitter, Atiku wrote: “I arrived to Abuja this morning to a search by agents of the state, aimed at intimidating me and my staff. I am committed to building a Nigeria where no citizen is intimidated by agents of state who are paid to protect them. Together, #LetsGetNigeriaWorkingAgain.
Barrister Michael condemned the action in its entirety and call on president Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the action and advised that he (PMB) should give agents of the state marching orders to carry out their duties within the confines of the constitution so as to avoid his name dragged into such action by some overzealous officers and avoid overheating the already charged political environment.
He submitted that politics should be seen and played like a game where the rules prevail with winners and losers emerging at the end and in the spirit of sportsmanship they embrace each other, noting that the era of intimidation is long gone in our democracy as the rate of awareness of the people increase on daily basis. He further said that the action will not deter them.
With about 95 days to the general elections and just seven days to the commencement of the political campaigns he reiterated the Atiku Campaign Movement worldwide is ready to further mobilize voters to vote for Alhaji Atiku for the February 2019 elections without fear as he concluded that the movement wilł not only mobilize but will also monitor the government to make sure that Nigerians are accorded good governance.
