Motorists Groan Over Potholes and Gullies on Alimosho Roads…LGA Appeals for Patience

The efforts of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in the provision of infrastructures especially roads in Lagos state seem not to be getting compliments from his supposed foot soldiers; the Local Governments. This is because the inner roads meant to ease the stress of connectivity seem to have been abandoned as gullies and portholes have taken over the roads thereby bringing untold hardship to both residents and motorists.

Alimosho LCDA seem to be the worst of these LCDAs as her major inner routes have all grown into valleys of death from long time abandonment and lack of maintenance which have brought untold hardship to all users. Motorists are now compelled to join the man made traffic usually caused by the commercial bus drivers who continually obstruct flow of traffic in their quest to pick and discharge off their passengers as there are no other alternative routes accessing other parts of the LGA.

Motorists had in the past plied these alternative inner roads to avoid the artificial gridlock on Egbeda axis such as Samuel Street from Vulcanizer connecting Goddy Love through Ogunlana and Owoniyi Streets to connect the Idimu-Egbeda road via Olugbede Model Market for those heading towards Ikotun, Idimu and beyond while the Alabata routes were used by those connecting Gowon Estate, Okunola and Ipaja axis. Today, the roads are now in their shadows of the past as residents and motorists groan at the dilapidated state.

According to a resident of Ogunlana street who spoke to our correspondent under the condition of anonymity claimed that the street have been neglected close for years without any form of maintenance as he noted that the road plays major role on easing the gridlock on the Akowonjo road but today there seem to be no local government effort to compliment what Governor Ambode is doing. He reiterated that in the past, the local government and the public works have been providing palliatives by periodically patching the portholes but over a year now no such thing has happened. Pointing at the Daramola street junction up to the Ogunlana and Aderenle streets mini-roundabout which has become impassable and threat to lives especially to children that thronged the roads to schools, he appeals on relevant authorities to quickly come up with measures that will cushion the effects of these bad roads.

In a bid to get the feel of the authorities, our corespondent spoke with the Supervisory Councilor for Work Alimosho LGA, Honorable Adeshanu Adebowale who confirmed knowledge of the roads condition and assured that the local government will be embarking on rehabilitation of the bad roads in the next one month. The Alimosho Mail therefore appeal for more patience as we wait for the execution of their promise.
