As a nationwide protest looms, the Federal Government has directed vice-chancellors of universities to take proactive measures to ensure the security and safety of staff and students. The Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, gave the directive through a statement by the acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Chris Maiyaki.
The statement advised vice-chancellors to issue specific statements assuring staff and students of their safety and to encourage students to remain on campus to focus on their academic pursuits, avoiding potential danger during the planned protests.
The Federal Government acknowledged the right to peaceful protest but expressed concern for the safety of staff, students, and university property. The directive aims to prevent potential disruptions and ensure a secure environment for academic activities to continue uninterrupted.
Universities have been urged to take necessary precautions to safeguard their communities, as the planned protest approaches. The government’s proactive measures demonstrate its commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of students and staff.
