Kebbi, Nigeria – A devastating attack on the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) patrol base in Koko Local Government area of Kebbi State has left one officer dead and another abducted.

According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi Area Command of the NCS, Mohammed Tajuddeen Salisu, the attack occurred on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m.

The attackers, reportedly armed men, targeted the officers in retaliation for recent anti-smuggling activities in the area. Assistant Superintendent Customs Dabo Umar was shot and killed during the incident, while Superintendent of Customs Babagana Abba Kabiru was abducted.

The kidnappers are demanding a hefty ransom for the release of the abducted officer.

The Kebbi State Customs Area Controller, Iheanacho Ernest Ojike, has commiserated with the family of the deceased and prayed for the safe release of the abducted officer.

A manhunt has been launched for the killers and abductors, with relevant security services involved in the matter.

This attack highlights the risks and challenges faced by customs officers in their efforts to combat smuggling and protect national borders.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
