The Association of Community Media Practitioners in Nigeria (APCOM), will hold its maiden GALA & AWARD EVENING in Ikeja-Lagos on June 12, 2018 under the theme, “2019 Elections: Galvanising Public Participation through Community Media.”
The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, is the Special Guest of Honour of the Evening, while Aremo Olusegun Osoba, former Executive Governor of Ogun State and former Editor of Daily Times of Nigeria, is the Chairman of the event. Mr. Sam Amuka, founder, Vanguard Newspaper, is Father of the Day.
The Keynote Address will be delivered by Akogun Gani Kayode Balogun, CEO of GKB News Digest.
APCOM is a membership-based, not-for-profit association established for the promotion of the ideals and objectives of the community media sector among which are a commitment to serve the information needs of particular communities across the country, and to serve those needs diligently, professionally, ethically, and truthfully.
According to the President of the Association, Dayo Akintobi, the Gala & Award Evening is being held to celebrate the gains of community media since practitioners came together to add value to the sector and bring it to the mainstream, as well as to honour key stakeholders of the industry who have contributed to its growth and development.
Those to be honoured for the evening are the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Akinwinmi Ambode, who will be conferred with the Champion of Community Media Empowerment & Community Development Award; Hon. Kehinde Bamigbetan, Lagos State Commissioner for Information & Strategy, who will receive the Award of Excellence in Capacity Building & Community Media Management; Alhaji Monzor Olowosago, Publisher, Oriwu Sun Newspaper, Lifetime Achievement Award; Mr Jim Suleman, Editor-in-Chief, Commoners Newspaper, Lifetime Achievement Award; and Prince Ganny Awobajo, Managing Editor, Ikorodu News, Resilience in Community Journalism Award.
