European Quarters Community Development Association represents a community with over 500 building housing over 5000 residents in Agbado-Okedo LCDS. Today; the community is facing extinction as erosion is threatening to wash it away.
Our correspondent who visited the community confirmed that if urgent measures are not taking, the state might be heading to witness one of its worst ecological problems in Agbado-Okeodo LCDA. Speaking to our correspondent, the secretary of the CDA confirmed that the erosion came as a result of lack of proper channelling of the drains during the construction of the Ekoro/Ajasa/Command Road which has resulted in the drains finding its way through their community which is on a lower topology.
On the efforts made so far; Mr Babs confirmed that several letters have been written to the governor who must have directed the ministry of Works to visit the area severally but our fear is not knowing how soon work will commence as the effects on our roads and houses are much with the current heavy down-pour currently witnessed in Lagos State.
The Chief Imam of the community Shehu Ajisope Mobalaji added that the roads have been washed off by the erosion despite their efforts to fill them with various materials noting that the major affected streets include Babs Itanola, Dagunduro, Majekodumi, Modinat Halulai, and Adepeju Daramola streets amongst others. While Mrs Coker said their only alternative route to their houses is also gone thereby forcing residents to park their cars along Power-line which she noted is a security risk, she also showed us that the pedestrian bridge constructed by the community to aid access is now threatened by the erosion. Another woman; a landlady also complained that the situation is also contributing to the accommodation challenge in the community and state at large as most of their apartments for rent-age purposes are empty due to lack of accessibility.
They plead with His Excellency Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to act as in his character and like he has demonstrated in other areas to rescue them from the impending disaster.
