The Local Government Area Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) Mr Gbenga Adeshina has stated the position of the party in the forthcoming local government election. Speaking with our correspondent, Mr Adesina said that AD is poised to win this election noting that the party has remained solid over the years despite efforts to trample her. The party has remained the father of political parties in the west in this current political dispensation; majority of the political gladiators in the South west today were members of the Alliance Democracy (AD) hence the time has come for AD to take her rightful position in the politics of Lagos State especially with the forthcoming election. He noted that in the process that led to this election, AD has remained the only party that conducted a true and fair primary without any rancour or acrimonies as the case of other parties. This goes to show how democratic we are and it is only a democratic party that can give the dividends of democracy to the electorates.
He pointed out that the reason why the party will not be fielding candidates in all the LGA/LCDAs and Wards remains the fact that Nigerians have been made to believe that without money it is impossible to contest an election which is not the case with AD, our forms were free and candidates are not under any pressure to deliver anything to the party afterwards, rather we are keen in having quality representation and service delivery to the people.
He also said that despite not fielding candidates at all the Wards and LCDAs, the few that have been selected as the candidates of AD are men of honour and integrity, people with passion to serve the people, in his words “people that will live and work in Alimosho and not people that will take Alimosho money to develop other areas as the case with some parties”. When asked why his party posters are not seen like that of other parties, he said that the election is not jamboree as we have been meant to believe noting that the party has its strategy which he confirmed has been yielding the desired results so far.
He used the opportunity to urge the electorates to avoid collecting any amount of money for their votes as those monies will be taken from us in quantum folds. He said he is optimistic that Alimosho people and Lagosians are tired of the ruling party and desire a better platform. Saying the party is ready and willing to serve people of Alimosho and Lagosians at large.
