The world is a global village. When we say the world is going digital, it simply means a new way of doing things in the 21st century. Studies reveal that there are over six billion connected mobile devices in the world today with more being added continuously. There are signs that we are heading towards a time when not just devices but home appliances, homes and indeed whole cities will become connected. The Robotics age is already here with us, the challenges remains on the ability of humans to catch up.

It is proven that every age or generation comes with its language or tool; thus Programing represents the language or tool of operating in the digital society and the place to start is to have an understanding of how to code.

Coding4kidsng.com is pleased to introduce Summer2Code 2018; the second edition of such event in Alimosho, according to the Chief Content Officer at De Royale Hall Resources organizers of the event Mr. Elvis Eromosele “Coding4KidsNG is our little contribution to efforts to propagate the gospel of coding”.

He also noted that in the emerging digital society coding would become as basic as reading and writing. He explained that coding, which makes it possible for us to create computer software, apps and websites, will become the new literature hence the need for children to be provided access to coding know-how, to ensure that Nigeria and Nigerians are not left behind. “Coding is now a life skill, so children from every strata of society deserve the opportunity to acquire coding skills, to be prepared for the future and to keep abreast with change in the society.”

Recounting from the experience from last edition the organizers noted that the summer of 2017 had a special coding class for kids in Alimosho area of Lagos. Six Saturdays of learning to code, it was highly enlightening what the children could achieve from a class of 21 participants aged between 4 -18 years. At the end of the third week, the kids were creating basic websites and exhibited high degree of understanding the concept of mobile apps design, development and deployment.

Also, it was found out during the period that children indeed have the brightest minds. Their hands might be small but they have great minds. Teaching the concept of coding strengthens the kids’ logical thinking, improves their problem solving skills and boosts the readiness for the digital future.

It was found out that kids can learn to Code with minimal supervision; what they simply require is an enabling environment and platform to help them find expression for their creative thoughts and imaginations.

Alimosho 2018 Summer2Code will have three (3) weeks special accelerated coding program for kids with well-structured, relevant and comprehensive curriculum provides students a well-rounded coding education and will commence July 30 through August 16, 2018. Mondays to Thursdays at Domis International Academy, 229 Ikotun Idimu Road, Council bus stop, Lagos by 9am – 1pm daily at the cost of N15, 000 only (Covering course content, certificate and daily refreshment).
