Omoyele Sowore, activist and former presidential candidate, has reacted to the arrest and imprisonment of investigative journalist Isaac Bristol, aka PIDOMNigeria. Sowore condemned the Nigerian Government’s actions, calling the charges against PIDOM “bogus and ridiculous.”
In a statement on his X handle, Sowore expressed admiration for PIDOM’s boldness and reaffirmed his commitment to resisting tyranny and oppression. “We remain defiant against tyranny and oppression,” he wrote. “They will hear from Nigerians loud and clear very soon.”
PIDOM was arraigned on charges of money laundering, unlawfully obtaining and disseminating classified documents, and cybercrime. Justice Emeka Nwite sent him to prison, sparking outrage among advocates for press freedom and human rights.
Sowore’s statement echoes the sentiments of many Nigerians who see PIDOM’s imprisonment as an attack on free speech and journalism. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to growing dissent and demands for PIDOM’s release.
