The Rotary Club of Akowonjo under the auspices of Rotary International has promised to intervene in Basic Education and Literacy, Maternity and Child Health, Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Community and Economic Development and Supporting The Environment” in the Akowonjo suburb of the Alimosho Local Government of the state.

This was unveiled by the 38th President of Rotary Club of Akowonjo, Rotarian (Dr.) Olasunkanmi Esther Sam-Amoye at the inaugural fellowship of the club which held last week at the Lagos Airport Hotel. The inaugural fellowship, ushered in the new Rotary year christened “Rotary Creates Hope in the World”.

In her speech during the event titled “Night of Blues”, the club’s President, Olasunkanmi Sam-Amoye stated that she intends to work with members of her board to create hope for the Akowonjo community by “identifying and collaborating with corporates, government agencies and individuals to impact our communities through service to humanity in line with the Rotary theme of the year”.

The new president of the club noted that “as members of the Rotary Club of Akowonjo“, we are united by our unwavering commitment to spreading hope in our communities, both far and near adding that it is through our collective efforts, fueled by compassion and dedication, that we will make a lasting impact and create a world filled with possibilities.

According to Dr. Sam-Amoye, “during my presidency, I envision our club, “The Achievers’ Club” as a beacon of hope for all.” “We will strive to be the catalysts of positive change, extending a helping hand to those in need and uplifting spirits through our various initiatives because our vision will be to encourage each and every member to embrace the spirit of selflessness, extend acts of kindness to others and to create moments that instill hope for the future we eagerly anticipate”.

Consequently, she charged members of the club to “embark on this extraordinary journey of service, knowing that their collective efforts will bring joy, alleviate suffering, and inspire countless lives.”

At the well-attended event which had Rotary dignitaries like past District Governor Abayomi Adewunmi, past District Governor Otunba Bola Onabadejo, past District Governor Bola Oyebade, past Assistant Governor Dr. Olukayode Akinlade, leaders of industries, Rotarians and guests alike, Rotarian Sunkanmi Sam-Amoye implored the gathering “to unite as a family, supporting and encouraging one another every step of the way, create a nurturing and inclusive environment where ideas flourish, where collaboration thrives, and where every member feels valued and empowered.”

The highpoint of the inaugural fellowship was the presentation of award by the president to the immediate past president Rotarian Wale Ajenifuja. Although Rotarian Ajenifuja was unavoidably absent, the award was received on his behalf by Rotarian Victor Amaraegbu.

Meanwhile, the investiture of the 38th president and board of directors of Rotary Club of Akowonjo has been scheduled for Sunday September 24, 2023 and it will be graced by the second female Governor of District 9110 Rotarian Ify Ezije. Part of activities slated for the day include the unveiling of the club’s plan for the Rotary year.
