Waste management has always been a challenge of major cities like Lagos State, though while Lagosians await for the full implementation of the new waste and environmental policies as proposed by the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, residents of Fagbohun Street in Mosan-Okunola seem to need an urgent measures of evacuating heaps of wastes taking over their entire street.
A residents who spoke to our correspondent simply identified as Baba Afusa confirmed to us that their wastes have been evacuated just once in a period of more or close to six months.
When asked if it was as a result of non-payment, he refuted it and said that most of the houses had their bills paid to date prior to the halt on evacuation.
He reiterated that currently he is sure that some houses still have their bills paid to date despite the foul play while few of them have resulted to not paying since the services are not forthwith.
He expressed fears of outbreak of epidemics which may be disastrous owing to the nature of the environment with majority of residents are children.
While appealing to the Executive Chairman of Mosan-Okunola LCDA Honourable Princess Adebisi Adebajo to use her office to their rescue and save lives of her citizens.
Another resident, an elderly woman who pleaded anonymity said that their street has been neglected and now decorated with heaps of rubbles brought by the residents to fill the entrance as a result of erosion despite appeals during the last administration while noting that they now have only one entrance to their street which she said adds additional stress to them couple with the pain of coping with heaps of refuse which also have made it quite difficult to breath fresh air.
We also appeal to Abisco to express her motherly love to Fagbohun Street.
