Family is an integral part of Christianity as demonstrated by Jesus Christ while on earth and this has been the reason behind the family weekend celebration of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
Annually, a weekend in November is annually set aside to celebrate the family and it is tagged “Family Weekend”. This year’s activities of the national event of RCCG kicked off last Thursday and to culminate with a dinner for all members and guests on Saturday while the grand finale; a thanksgiving service on Sunday.
The event which was witnessed from inception to conclusion by our correspondent commenced with a family film show titled “What About Me” .The film which showcased some of the challenges occasionally faced by Christian homes while buttressing on the need to remain steadfast in prayers no matter the challenges. The officiating minister Bro. Adeolu Ayanlowo who took time to narrate the movie and its motive to the congregation, used the medium to urge them to always learn to be thankful to God whatever they have and desist from comparing themselves with others as seen in the movie where a woman left her home for another man due to her husband’s inability to provide for the family for the period but she ended up marrying a rich man only to discover that he was a cultic .
The Friday session started with praise to God for preserving their families before the prayers session presided by Pastor Sunday Awosanya. A prophet of the Most High God who guided the congregation through various warfare prayers with several prophetic declarations, Saturday session was time to invigorate the body as the entire congregation were hosted to a banquet with guest speakers on Insurance, health, financial management, investment and wealth creation also there were lots of games to add spices to the occasion.
The event culminated with a thanksgiving service on Sunday with the Lagos Province 27 Sunday School Co-ordinator Pastor Akanbi Bello as the guest minister who had two sessions to preach on; firstly on “The Role of Parenting in the Kings’ Business and Ways of surviving the Recession”. Introducing the guest minister, the Pastor in Charge of the zone and the Assistant Provincial Pastor of Lagos Province 27 Pastor Rotimi Oloruntoba said his choice for inviting Pastor Bello was not for his anointing alone but also for his vast experience in financial matters as he double as a senior banker (Branch Manager) in one on the leading commercial banks in Africa and this was evidenced from his teaching on the two topics as left the entire congregation amazed at the end.
Succeeding the teaching was the time for a worthy thanks giving offerings with a high praise led by the City Changers Choir with Deacon Olumide Bankole ministering. The family weekend ended with family deliverance prayers administered by Pastor Sunday Awosanya.
He also urged the children to always pray for their parents, obey them and be content with what their parents are able to provide.
