Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, has appealed for calm and cautioned against the planned nationwide protest, warning that it could lead to chaos, impede progress, and undermine Nigeria’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals.
While acknowledging the right to peaceful protest, Orelope-Adefulire emphasized the potential risks and unintended consequences of a leaderless movement, citing the risk of infiltration by malicious elements and the possibility of escalating into uncontrollable crises.
She pointed to the #EndSARS protest as an example, which resulted in numerous casualties, destruction, and vandalism, leaving many businesses looted and increasing unemployment.
Orelope-Adefulire urged those calling for the protests to embrace dialogue with the government and offer sustainable solutions to prevailing issues, emphasizing that meaningful progress can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace, dialogue, and stability.
She noted that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to addressing the challenges facing the country, including insecurity, terrorism, and social and economic issues, despite the global economic downturn.
Orelope-Adefulire appealed for caution and careful consideration, calling for positive decisions for the safety and unity of the country.
