President Bola Tinubu has approved the release of N108 billion to the 36 states in Nigeria to address flooding and other natural disasters. Vice President Kashim Shettima announced this at the State House in Abuja, describing the situation in Maiduguri as a “national calamity.”
Shettima commended President Tinubu for his commitment to partnering with states to tackle these challenges, highlighting the recent allocation of N3 billion to each state. He also praised the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, for his leadership in the National Assembly.
Tajudeen expressed his condolences to the people of Borno State, assuring that the National Assembly will provide support to the affected communities. He emphasized the importance of a harmonious relationship between the executive, legislature, and judiciary in sustaining democracy in Nigeria.
The allocation of funds comes as flooding in Maiduguri has resulted in significant displacement and loss of life, with over 400,000 households affected and 30 reported deaths. The National Assembly has pledged to provide support to those affected, aiming to help them regain their means of livelihood.
