Police Averts Hausa and Yoruba Communal Clash in Olugbede

Olugbede market in Egbeda area of Alimosho would have been thrown into a major communal clash if not for the quick response of men of the Police force from Idimu police divisional headquarters under Area “M” Command.

An eye witness account said the matter started on Saturday night when some alleged Hausa Cyclists popularly called Okada- attacked one Mr Goke for no known reason beating him with sticks, stones and vandalizing his car while trying to assess a popular hotel in the neighborhood under false alarm of thief (barrow) in Hausa language which attracted the members of Hausa community around who then took the laws in their hands by lynching the victim.

However, he (victim)was later identified by others as one the community whose mother owns a catering outfit in the neighborhood which aroused the anger of the youths community against that of the actions of the Hausa community as the victim was adjudged to be of good behavior and respectful not capable of perpetrating any of such as alleged. As tempers continued to rise within the community towards what would have been a reprisal attack, thanks to  the quick intervention of the men of the police from Idimu and some of leaders of the community who pacified and urged the youths to allow the rule of law take its course.

As at yesterday (Sunday) evening some of the suspects have been identified by the eagle eyes of the police and taken into custody while the victim is recuperating in an undisclosed private hospital in Alimosho.

The police have also promised not leave any stone unturned in unraveling the course of the matter and  putting measures in place to forestall further occurrences.

Due to the unstable condition of the victim the suspects are to be reminded in custody pending his stability while investigation is on going.
