Onigbinde applauds Finidi ’s appointment as Super Eagles boss

Former Super Eagles Coach, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde has appluaded the appointment of ex- Nigerian international, Finidi George as the new Manager of the senior national team.
Onigbinde who occupied the position as the first indigenous coach in 40 years ago could not contain his joy when the Nigeria Football Federation NFF pronounced Finidi as the new Super Eagles handler last Monday.
“I am very glad that the NFF has given an indigenous coach the opportunity to serve as the national team handler after a very long time.
“It my utmost joy that being the first indigenous coach after so many years another Nigerian is given the chance to tutor the senior national team,” he said.
“I don’t want to care about the process they used in picking Finidi but glad that it choice is a Nigerian. The choice is that of the administrators, I am no longer one,” he explained.
The former FIFA Instructor said the onus is now on the lap of Finidi George to perform as he wished him good luck in his new assignment.
“It now depends on how he Finidi performs. I wish him the best of luck,” Chief Onigbinde prayed.
He asked all football stakeholders to rally round him to ensure that he excels in his new assignment as any success recorded by him would rub-off on the Super Eagles and Nigeria.
The NFF on Monday announced Finidi George as the permanent coach; recall, the former Real Betis winger has been in charge of the Super Eagles on interim basis.
According to a statement ascribed to the football governing body by the NFF; “The Board of Nigeria Football Federation on Monday approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Committee to appoint former ace winger Finidi George as Head Coach of the Senior Men National Football Team, Super Eagles.
“George, who spent 20 months as assistant to José Santos Peseiro before the Portuguese voluntarily left the post following the accomplishment of Africa Cup of Nations runner-up position at Cote d’Ivoire 2023, took charge of the squad in an interim capacity during two friendly matches in Morocco last month.
