The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewaure II, has appealed to Nigerian youths to cancel the planned protest scheduled for August 1, 2024. In a statement, the monarch acknowledged the current hardships but emphasized that time is needed for the government’s economic policies to take effect.
Oba Ewaure II advised the Federal Government to intensify efforts in implementing its economic and security policies, while also urging protesters to shelve their plans. He echoed President Bola Tinubu’s plea for more time to accomplish his plans for the nation.
The monarch’s statement comes as some youths plan a 10-day nationwide hunger and hardship protest to draw attention to citizens’ plight. Oba Ewaure II’s appeal seeks to calm tensions and encourage patience, emphasizing that “for things to get better, it has to be tough for a while.”
