The Assemblies of God Church remains one of the Pentecostal churches in Nigeria that it’s doctrine still borders so much on righteousness and Holiness. Recently the church has found itself in the public space for its infighting arising from who occupies its highest office in Nigeria; the office of the General Superintendent which lasted for many years in court before affirming Reverend Chidi Okoroafor as its substantive GS as it is fondly addressed.
The crisis which has factionalised the church as some of its pastors loyal to the ousted GS have failed to recognise the leadership of the church by Rev Chidi and have continued to exhibit their disloyalty through avoiding meetings or even fellowships.
Latest news emanating from the headquarters of the church in Enugu State, obviously confirms that the fight may seem to be over in the sight of the public while it rages on within. Yesterday, the news of suspension of Rev. Chidi Okoroafor rented the air following the decision of the highest body of the church’s committee for an alleged romance with a lady who is said to be based in the United States of America.
The committee may have acted in its best or in the interest of the church, however; it seems that the committee’s judgement is quicker than that of our creator, the God, we all claim to serve. Wherein, the accused nor his accuser (lady) was never invited to explain their position in the alleged romance. Rev Chidi was asked to hand over all church properties in his custody with the appointment of his deputy who is due for retirement in few months as the acting GS.
The book of Revelations that narrates about the judgement day, made it clear that “one will be present at the judgement day when the books will be opened to answer for him or herself of all his/her dealings and that whose name was not found in the Great book will be cast into the lake of fire”. In this case the accused has been cast into the lake of fire, by men and women who are supposed to know better.
The failure of the church to give the accused a fair hearing before ordering his suspension, obviously, points that the war is still raging in the church and may further throw the church into a bigger crisis. As many who believes that Rev. Chidi has been conspired against may move to further destabilise the “Assemblies of God”.
Rev Chidi Okoroafor may have accepted the verdict, as passed by those who are moving faster than God and possibly holier than him and like the story of the harlot in the bible who was to be stoned by the crowd that was brought to Christ; I hope those that have casted the stones on Chidi Okoroafor, are all living saints, if not; just like they have judged him, they will all be judged, even quicker than expected.
His innocence or guilt is solely of God, the Omni present, since he has been judged here, it’s obvious that God may not punish him any further but to grant him the grace to continue his job.
