Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has expressed concern about the escalating socioeconomic challenges in the North, including rising out-of-school children, poverty, and insecurity. He warned that the region is on the verge of collapse if leaders fail to collaborate to address these issues.
During a visit from the National Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Mamman Osuman, Sani highlighted the region’s developmental and security challenges. He cited statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics and UNICEF, revealing high levels of multidimensional poverty and out-of-school children in the North.
Sani emphasized the need for collective action to address these challenges, urging leaders to move beyond “toxic politics” and focus on development. He called on the Arewa Consultative Forum to play a key role in building consensus and refocusing attention on overcoming the region’s challenges.
The governor’s concerns include:
– High levels of multidimensional poverty, with 65% of the poor living in the North
– 70% of out-of-school children in Nigeria being in the North
– Insecurity hindering development, food security, and infrastructure
– Child and maternal mortality on the rise
Sani stressed the need for introspection, collective action, and a unified strategy to address these challenges and promote development in the North.
