Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has expressed his conviction that Nigeria would be in a better state if Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate, had won the 2023 presidential election. Abaribe, who represents Abia South in the Senate, emphasized that nepotism, which he believes is rampant under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, would not have been an issue under Obi’s leadership.
According to Abaribe, Obi’s presidency would have been characterized by fairness and a lack of nepotism, unlike the current administration. He cited Tinubu’s appointment of four ministers from Ogun State as an example of nepotism. Abaribe also stated that the people of the South-East should not wait for presidents to be fair to them, but rather take charge of their own development.
In addition, Abaribe welcomed the arrest of Simon Ekpa, the self-acclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra in exile, describing it as a welcome development. He also advocated for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, stating that it would help bring an end to the violence in the South-East.
Abaribe’s comments have sparked a heated debate, with some Nigerians agreeing that Obi’s presidency would have been beneficial, while others have expressed skepticism. Despite the differing opinions, Abaribe’s statement highlights the ongoing concerns about nepotism and the need for inclusive leadership in Nigeria.
