Former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, has arrived at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to provide clarifications regarding her tenure.
Mrs. Umar-Farouq responded to the anti-graft agency’s invitation to address certain issues under investigation, demonstrating her willingness to cooperate with the ongoing inquiry.
Expressing her commitment to transparency, she stated, “I remain proud to have served my country as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with every sense of responsibility and will defend my actions, stewardship, and programs during my tenure whenever I am called upon to do so.”
Initially, the former Minister failed to attend the EFCC’s invitation related to the alleged laundering of N37.1 billion during her term. However, she later apologized in writing, citing her inability to appear before the commission at that time.
Dele Oyewale, the spokesman for the EFCC, confirmed that the former minister communicated her current unavailability to appear before the commission in the letter.
