… RCCG, City Changers Lead Community On Palliative Measures
… Residents and Motorists Decry Abandonment
It’s no longer news about the total collapse of most of the inner roads across the state as many have believed that the tireless governor has further promoted the laziness and lack of direction of the local government administrations while others believe that the supposed third tier of government is more or fewer cash centres for their political leaders. Top on the list appears to be Mosan-Okunola LCDA, as the major routes in and around the LCDA have been left without any form of maintenance in her over thirteen months in office.
From her gateway at Egbeda bus stop, Jezza Street the very first point of call for visitors through the popular Egbeda bus stop is far worst to be described as a death trap as the street has become impassable for pedestrians, talk less of motorists. Adaranijo Street which would have best served as an alternative route to avoid the Egbeda bus stop hiccup can be likened to a ghost town as residents now dump refuse on the street as a palliative measure so as to be able to paddle around it.
Okunola Road, which the LCDA’s name was coined from, represents another gateway leading to her numerous estates (Gowon, Abessan and Gemade estates) and those heading towards Ayobo-Ipaja, even into Ogun State. The road hosting her health centre via Egbeda bus stop has been starved of maintenance since the life of this administration and could be described as in a state of collapse at the moment. Also, the end of the stretch by gate bus stop roundabout is also in a sorry state.
Earlier in the year, the Alimosho Mail Newspapers appealed to the Chairman after the repair of collapsed portion on Okunola Bus stop to provide palliative measures to cushion the effect of the pains ranging from traffic, damage to cars and the emotional pains and forestall further damage on the road through our report published on March 19, 2018. She acknowledged and promised to intervene during our invitation to her office. With months gone and the year running to an end and the pain increasing by the minute, there seems to be no help in view. The entire road and adjoining ones like Powerline road and Mufutau Adeyemi street are now collapsed due to gross neglect.
The 5th Avenue recently constructed by her administration has attracted more criticism than accolades as many have condemned the quality while others accuse her of constructing it to pave way for the illegal stalls built by one of her political godfathers. Some quarters have blamed her for not completing the road which has already started giving way from one of the ends towards Scooby Doo Schools. Some even queried the reason for such partial construction with two lanes up to a point and collapsed into one with the construction of market ongoing.
Residents and motorists can at least heave a sigh of relief as members of the Excellent Men and Youth fellowship of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, City Changers Zonal Headquarters joined by some youths of the community have taken it upon themselves to provide palliative measures on one of the worst portions of the road by Aregbesola Health Centre. The men and youths in their numbers came out on Saturday picking rubbles and sacking sands to fill the gullies.
Speaking to our correspondent, the leader of the church noted that they have longed to do this well before now but for the challenges of getting the materials to fill the portion. He also noted that as a church it’s part of their responsibilities in the form of corporate social responsibility and above all, it is the best way to evangelise noting that people would believe more on what they see you do than what you preach to them. He enjoined believers to note that actions such as this are what God has commanded them to do by saying “love your neighbours as thyself” and also when He said we should take charge, we can’t fold our arms and watch things deteriorate.
He further reiterated that the church has order CSR programs that include feeding of members every second Sunday of the month which has been affecting lives through testimonies and the annual praise program tagged Hallelujah, which hosts people across the country singing praises to God which has also generated wonderful testimonies. He said guests are treated to a feast while the program lasts.
The Alimosho Mail, therefore, appeals to the local government Chairman to see this as a wakeup call and do the needful to restore Mosan-Okunola LCDA to her enviable position in the area of good road network.
