In the recent weeks Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, Daddy GO as popularly called, set the social media on fire, following his recent pronouncement on his Twitter handle on marriage counselling the reason he advised one of his sons to relieve his secretary of her job, simply because his son confessed of his excitement to seeing the secretary every Monday. While his message was yet to settle in minds of many and the debates continued with many condemning his position while several others were in his defence bla bla.
Daddy GO last Sunday led some of his disciples with solidarity including members of the Christian Association of Nigeria ( CAN) on a match against the spate of rising insecurity on the land, though a welcome action but yet with no categorical message on the way forward as many would have anticipated from such a revered personality, as Pastor Adeboye.
In 2015 prior to the general elections that saw another of his sons, Pastor Yemi Osibanjo’s emergence as the Vice President, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) camp on Kilometre 14 Lagos-Ibadan expressway, was turned to pilgrim ground, by the candidates of at least the major contenders where endorsement and prayers were sought from one of the biggest churches in Nigeria and of course that of the candidature of a son was quite special as the church became a major campaign ground for the now ruling party of the APC, despite insistence from other pastors who were against or better still whom God spoke a different thing to; amongst them were a visiting Brazilian Envangelist, Morris Cerrulos while ministering in December 2014 programme held by another of his son’s church; Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel presided by Bishop David Oyedepo.
All that said and done, with the 2015 and its subsequent 2019 general elections history, the revered pastor in his humble nature has remained calm or probably waiting to hear from God like the Moses of the Old Testament waited to bring messages to the Israelites while they surjourned in the wilderness. It is worthy of note that in one of Moses’ waiting on the mountain to hear from God, the children of Israel had anticipated his death and demanded for Joshua to make another god for them, the god they will see without an intercessor. Exodus 31 and 32. This may have been the case ín Nigeria before the Sunday walk by Daddy GO, as most of other “smaller pastors” have remained quite vocal against this administration even at the murder of a daughter of Daddy GO in the North for evangelising, which was like poking a finger into his eyes yet he maintained mute.
While many may have applauded his solidarity walk against insecurity in the nation of Nigeria, many still wonder what message the walk brings? Many quarters anticipated a pronouncement from Daddy GO, either in condemning the negligence of this administration, the protection of lives and properties of citizens remains a pivotal responsibility of any government, but this was never heard. Others believed that Daddy GO would not want to be seen as opposition, considering his position as the father of the Vice President which might be misconstrued by many.
But for a common man on the street who sees him as their father and the mouth piece of the Lord, who would have loved to hear the message behind the walk, they are still waiting as nothing of such was made or perhaps it is not yet time for the message, hence we might need to wait further, but for few of us who simply understand the clout chasing game, it’s obvious to our school of thought that the revered man of God has finally given up on this administration. Just like the biblical Saul and Samuel scenario, God ordered Saul to go and destroy his enemies but he chose to bring some for sacrifice unto God which led to him dethroned as God instructed Samuel to go to the house of Jesse to anoint another King for Israel.
The whole nation is patiently waiting to get the message from the messenger, when it is time, but for now it will be more appropriate for us to have the message behind Daddy’s walk.
