Alhaji Bashir Uthman Tofa, former presidential candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC), is dead.
Family sources Said that Tofa died at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) in the early hours of Monday after a brief illness.
Tofa was MKO Abiola’s major challenger in the controversial June 12, 1993, presidential polls, annulled by the military government of General Ibrahim Babangida.
Said Alhaji Muhammad, one of the deceased’s relations, while confirming his death: “Alhaji Bashir tofa died after being admitted in hospital for sometime”.
Born on June 20, 1947, Tofa in the 1993 presidential elections, squared up against MKO Abiola of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the presumed winner of the election.
But the Babangida regime annulled the election.
