Alimosho Federal constituency remains not just the most populated local government area in Nigeria but also one of the most rapid developing as the huge population continually mount pressures on the demand for accommodation hence propelling huge investment in the areas of building construction.
Since the population of Alimosho which is estimated to be over 6 million require habitable structures which on daily basis are built to meet to at least close the gap in the demand, one will hardly walk through any street in Alimosho without the sight of either new construction or renovations to meet standards. However, the frequent harassment and intimidation these investors go through in the hands of personnel of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) would make potential investors to think otherwise.
With the efforts of the Executive Governor of Lagos State Mr Akinwunmi Ambode in easing the pain of obtaining certificate of occupancy (C of O) within the state and the banishment of Land grabbers popularly called omoonile in Lagos State just to encourage building development.
There is need also for the roles of LASBCA to be reviewed to further include building safety unlike what is currently obtained. The personnel of this agency have been very prompt in marking buildings under construction while in some cases these marked houses are completed and habited after either payment or negotiations have been reach and these sometimes nit in the interest of the community but otherwise.
The review of this agency should at least set a minimum requirement before one commences construction and what must be done at every stage of construction. The picture above confirms our position as it has been ordered to stop construction most likely because of lack of documentations which represents the government interest while the weak structure may be allowed to go ahead soonest which already poses a threat to the community.
The anticipated boost in standard housing in Lagos state will automatically mean a relief on both her citizenry and the government. Hence let it be all interest.
