In a groundbreaking move, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has signed an Executive Order aimed at transforming the state’s healthcare system through a comprehensive health insurance scheme. This initiative, announced on July 16, 2024, seeks to provide quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare to all residents.

The scheme, called Ilera Eko, is managed by the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) and is designed to pool contributory funds, spread risk, and minimize individual financial exposure. The Executive Order outlines critical components to ensure comprehensive, equitable, and sustainable health coverage for all residents.

Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, emphasized that the initiative aims to eliminate barriers to healthcare access, ensuring everyone can receive necessary care when needed. He called on stakeholders to support this transformative journey, thanking Governor Sanwo-Olu for his visionary leadership and commitment to healthcare reform.

This landmark Executive Order sets a benchmark for healthcare delivery in Lagos State, aligning with the National Health Insurance Authority Act 2022 and the objective of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
