The Lagos State Government has affirmed that all gates previously removed in the Lekki area remain intact and will be reinstated in the respective residents’ association zones once an amicable agreement is reached regarding the reinstallation process.
According to Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources in Lagos, part of the agreement must include a stipulation that the gates should not be closed before midnight. Additionally, there should be personnel stationed at the gates to ensure smooth entry and exit for all residents.
Wahab explained that the decision to remove all the gates was made to prevent accusations of selective removal from specific streets. He emphasized that the state government’s responsibility is to regulate operations in Lekki 1, a government scheme, leading to this challenging but necessary decision.
