The Lagos State Government has resumed its free medical outreach program, “Alaafia Eko,” amidst jubilation from residents. The initiative, which aims to provide free healthcare services to residents, has been hailed as a game-changer in the state’s healthcare sector.
The second phase of the program, which was flagged off at the Old Nursing School Complex in Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA and the Surulere Local Government Secretariat, witnessed an overwhelming turnout of residents eager to access a wide range of medical services.
Services offered at the outreach include blood pressure and blood sugar checks, HIV counseling and testing, eye examinations, and the distribution of free medications and eyeglasses. Attendees also received free consultations, treatment for basic ailments, and registration for the Ilera Eko health insurance scheme.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, highlighted the economic challenges faced by residents, which have made healthcare increasingly unaffordable. She emphasized that the “Alaafia Eko” initiative was designed to address these challenges by providing free healthcare services to all residents.
Beneficiaries of the program have praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the initiative, describing it as a “blessing” and a “relief.” The program has not only provided free medical care but also served as a platform for educating residents on the importance of health insurance and regular medical check-ups.
With the success of the first and second phases, the “Alaafia Eko” initiative is set to become a cornerstone of the state’s public health strategy, ensuring that no resident is left behind in the quest for accessible and affordable healthcare.
