Lagos Flags Off 2024 Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health Week

The Lagos State Government has launched the 2024 Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health Plus Nutrition (MNCAH+N) Week, aimed at promoting the well-being and survival of women and children. The event, flagged off by Wife of the Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, at the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, seeks to reach over 5 million children under the age of 5 with essential health services.

Dr. Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of good health practices, adequate nutrition, and timely interventions in ensuring the survival and well-being of children. She disclosed that the state government has declared free antenatal, delivery, and postnatal services for all pregnant women in state public hospitals and has zero tolerance for sexual and domestic violence.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Kemi Ogunyemi, restated the administration’s commitment to attaining universal health coverage, while the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, urged women to take advantage of the free medical interventions.

The Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development, Hon. Muibi Alade Folawiyo, commended the state government’s efforts in providing sustainable healthcare delivery and assured support from the local council.

The MNCAH+N Week, running from August 12th to 16th, offers an opportunity for caregivers to update essential life-saving services, including Routine Immunization, Vitamin A supplementation, Deworming, Growth Monitoring, Malnutrition Screening, and management of malnourished children.
