The Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ejigbo has sentenced two individuals, Abubakar Alido and Ishola Olatunji, to prison for vandalizing transformers belonging to Ikeja Electric Plc.

Alido was sentenced to one year in prison for vandalizing a 500KVA transformer on Michael Aladesuyi Street, Egbeda, while Olatunji received a six-month sentence for attempting to vandalize a transformer on Karimu Laka Street, Egbeda.

The court highlighted the importance of these sentences as a deterrent to other vandals, given the rising incidence of such crimes in the area.

Ikeja Electric’s Business Manager, Engr. Abayomi Bolorunde, expressed satisfaction with the judgments, hoping they would serve as a strong deterrent to potential vandals. He reiterated the company’s commitment to curtailing vandalism, emphasizing the significant damage it causes to operations and the inconvenience it brings to customers.

The company’s spokesman, Mr Kingsley Okotie, commended the joint efforts of Ikeja Electric’s Security and Legal teams, as well as external stakeholders, for their dedication in pursuing the cases to a logical conclusion. He assured that the company would continually leverage its relationships with the police and community stakeholders to combat infrastructure vandalism.
