A group of young Nigerian women; ‘Ladies in Politics’, LIPS, on Friday, November 25, 2022, distributed food items to large number of indigent people in Abuja to celebrate the 76th birthday of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The event was organized in collaboration with the office of the Special Assistant on Gender Issues and Women Advancement to Atiku.
Over 200 ladies in their branded uniform gathered at the Atiku Presidential Campaign office, Wuse II in Abuja before proceeding to the National Mosque where they distributed their gifts.
The beneficiaries were full of praise to the organizers and the presidential candidate of the PDP for their kind gesture.
Speaking to newsmen at the National Mosque, the Special Assistant on Gender Issues and Women Advancement to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Dr. Lynne Bassey, said they embarked on humanitarian service because that is the heartbeat of their principal (Atiku). She promised to do more towards the success of his presidential ambition.
Dr. Bassey said the ladies who attended the programme were leaders in their various places who already have structures.
“Most of them have taken to ‘Operation own your polling unit’; your polling unit is your strength and we are structuring ourselves as canvassers to win each of our polling units for His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa his running mate.
On the birthday of Atiku, she said, “Two days are very important in the life of a person; the day of birth and the day of death; what happens in-between is what adds value to the person.
“Today, we are here to celebrate the birthday of our principal, His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. We also show what he likes doing, which is charity.
“And today being the day he was born, we are reaching out to the society, because everyone is suffering in one way or the other. We have distributed food items to people and we are strategizing to ensure victory for PDP in the 2023 presidential election”, she said.
The Special Assistant called on Nigerian women to throw their wealth behind the candidacy of Atiku Abubakar assuring that he would give them a better deal and carry them along in his government.
Some members of the group who spoke with newsmen expressed joy for having the opportunity to be part of the event.
They said they would vote Atiku in the forthcoming election, because, according to them, he represents the hope of Nigeria.
