In a strike on south Lebanon, Israel killed a top commander of the Iran-backed Hezbollah group, as reported by a security source to AFP on Monday.
The slain commander, identified as Wissam Hassan Tawil, played a leading role in managing Hezbollah’s operations in the south. He held several other top positions within the group. Tawil was targeted in an Israeli strike on his car, marking the highest-ranking Hezbollah member to be killed since the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah began following the Israel-Hamas war on October 7.
The recent spate of targeted killings, including the death of Hamas’s deputy leader in Beirut, has raised concerns about the potential escalation of hostilities in the region.
