Nigeria’s leading electricity distribution company, has restated its commitment to effective and efficient service delivery in 2025, despite concerns over the high rate of vandalism of its installations in 2024. This vandalism resulted in service disruptions to some customers and had a negative impact on the socio-economic activities of businesses and livelihoods ¹.
According to Kingsley Okotie, Head of Corporate Communications at Ikeja Electric Plc, the rise in vandalism, especially in Epe community and its environs, is alarming and deprives law-abiding citizens and legitimate customers of reliable power supply.
A recent incident in Ikorodu highlighted the issue, where the company’s Ariel Bundle Cable (ABC) was vandalized, and a new service wire was illegally connected to steal electricity. Following an investigation, two individuals, Akintola Monsurat Olayinka and Obigbo Moses, were arrested and charged with conspiracy and vandalism ¹.
Okotie appealed to the public, community groups, and security operatives to assist Ikeja Electric in combating vandalism and energy theft. He emphasized the need for collaboration and partnership with security agencies and stakeholders to stem the tide of vandalism.
