Ikeja Electric, a leading electricity distribution company in Nigeria, has taken a significant step in empowering future leaders by boosting the reading culture of primary school pupils in Lagos. As part of the global Children’s Day celebration, the company visited three primary schools – Role Model School, Rivergate Model Academy, and Kith & Kin Montessori, Nursery & Primary Schools – with a session tagged “Storytime Magic.”
The initiative, led by the Ikeja Electric Employee Volunteer Scheme #GiveBackAlways (GBA) team, featured safety education, book reading, and presentation sessions aimed at improving skills, supporting development, and enriching the quality of education in schools. The team donated copies of storybooks authored by Mrs. Efe Fafinre, founder of Linking Hands Foundation, to the school libraries.
The event supported the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4, which focuses on providing quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. The CEO of Ikeja Electric, Mrs. Folake Soetan, emphasized the importance of deploying resources to supplement family and governmental efforts in achieving the SDGs.
The school administrators expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that it brought joy and created lasting memories for the children. The Deputy Head of Role Model School, Mr. Adeyinka Adedoyin, commended Ikeja Electric for reinforcing good values and setting a model for other corporate organizations to follow.
This initiative is part of Ikeja Electric’s commitment to supporting its host communities and promoting sustainable development. By investing in the education and development of future leaders, Ikeja Electric is contributing to the growth and prosperity of the communities it serves.
