The Executive Chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, Comrade Akinsanya Lasisi Ayinde, has launched a campaign to combat rape and sexual abuse in the community. The initiative, themed “Say No to Rape and Domestic Violence,” aims to raise awareness, support victims, and bring perpetrators to justice.

Akinsanya emphasized the importance of teaching children sexual morality and monitoring their online activities to prevent exposure to adult content. He also called for collective efforts from schools, religious institutions, and communities to educate individuals about sexual morality.

The campaign seeks to change the narrative for rape victims, providing a platform for them to speak up and seek help. Akinsanya noted that many victims are silenced by stigmatization and threats from perpetrators, and emphasized the need for community leaders to support victims and advocate for their rights.

The LCDA’s objectives include promoting and protecting the rights of vulnerable members of society, particularly women, children, and persons with disabilities. Akinsanya expressed concern over the increasing incidence of rape in Lagos and Nigeria, citing the alarming statistic that 1 in 4 girls experience sexual abuse before age 18.

Through this campaign, Igando-Ikotun LCDA aims to create a society free from rape and sexual violence, and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
