A yet-to-be-identified person has reportedly been killed by unknown gunmen in a hotel in Ebonyi State.
The gunmen also set ablaze some vehicles in the hotel around the Ezzamgbo junction axis in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.
Acting Police Public Relations Officer of Ebonyi State Command, DSP Joshua Ukandu confirmed the incident through a telephone call on Monday.
Ukandu said that the unknown gunmen attacked a hotel located around Ezzamgbo junction on Sunday night and killed one person.
The Police Mouthpiece said, “Several vehicles were set ablaze in the hotel by the gunmen during the attack.”
Ukandu, however, noted that the police had been deployed to the scene of the incident to ensure the protection of lives and property in the area.
He said the police had swung into action, to fish out those behind the unfortunate incident.
A further investigation by our correspondent revealed that the hotel attacked by the armed hoodlums belonged to the Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Prince Ikechukwu Odono.
It was gathered the unknown gunmen invaded the council chairman’s hotel located near Ezzamgbo junction on Sunday night and were shooting sporadically till 5:00 am Monday, leaving one person killed with several cars set ablaze.
When contacted for an action, the Ohaukwu Council Chairman, Prince Ikechukwu Odono who was in shock and pain over the incident, declined comment on the attack.
Odono said: “I don’t want to speak to the press now, on this incident.”
