Architect Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate in the March 18, 2023 election in Lagos state, is calling for the honorable resignation of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. This appeal comes in light of what Gbadebo claims to be “irrefutable evidence” that the governor utilized taxpayer funds to cover his personal legal expenses.
Gbadebo conveyed this message through his verified social media handle, emphasizing the severity of the governor’s alleged misuse of public funds for his legal defense. According to Gbadebo, such actions represent a blatant abuse of office and breach of public trust, prompting him to call on Governor Sanwo-Olu to take the honorable course of action and resign.
In his post titled “Irrefutable Evidences,” Gbadebo questioned the attempts made by the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotosho, to downplay the leaked evidence, asserting that the proofs presented are undeniable.
What adds to the concern is the apparent silence of the House of Assembly on this matter.
Analysts are already pointing out that it is within the statutory function of the Assembly to approve such expenditures through appropriation. Given the lack of such approval, they believe it is imperative for the Assembly to inquire into the governor’s actions.
As Lagos experiences a burgeoning opposition, Gbadebo anticipates that it will play a vital role in shaping the governance of the state known for its aquatic splendor.
