In a dedicated move towards aiding vulnerable families, Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, personally oversaw the distribution of N225 million in cash and food items to over 70,000 families in Bama Local Government Area. Governor Zulum’s visit to Bama involved two nights of coordinating humanitarian activities and engaging with security forces to enhance community and individual security.*
On Sunday, more than 45,000 females received N5,000 in cash along with a traditional wrapper each, while on Monday, approximately 25,000 male heads of households were provided with essential food items. Each male beneficiary received one bag of rice and one bag of maize grain.*
Governor Zulum emphasized the significance of prioritizing assistance to communities affected by insurgencies and residents facing challenges in meeting their livelihood needs. This proactive approach aims to deter individuals from being lured into joining insurgent groups.*
Addressing the situation, Governor Zulum stated, “In continuation of our efforts to provide assistance to the less privileged, we are here in Bama town of Bama Local Government Area. This LGA is one of those severely affected by Boko Haram violence, and access to agriculture and livelihood is still limited.”*
Accompanying the governor were key figures, including Engr. Bukar Talba, Chairman of the Borno palliative distribution committee, Dr. Zainab Gimba, House of Representatives member for Bama, Ngala, and Kala-Balge, as well as other government officials including Finance Commissioner Ali Ahmed, Commissioner of Works and Housing Engr. Mustapha Gubio, and Commissioner of Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Sugun Mai Mele.*
