Egbin Power Plc has successfully hosted the 2024 edition of its annual Community Football Competition, reinforcing the company’s commitment to promoting unity, youth development, and sports growth in its host communities.
The third edition of the competition, held at Ipakan Community Stadium in Ikorodu, Lagos, featured 16 teams from Egbin, Ijede, and Ipakan communities. The event witnessed an impressive turnout of supporters and showcased exceptional football skills from the participating teams.
According to Felix Ofulue, Head of Corporate Communication & Branding at Egbin Power, “The competition is a testament to our commitment to investing in the future of our host communities. It fosters unity, promotes sports development, and provides a reputable platform for our youth to showcase their talents.”
Nigeria’s ex-international player and Atlanta ’96 Olympic Gold Medallist, Abiodun Obafemi (MON), attended the finals and commended Egbin Power for creating a strong platform for sports development and unity among youths.
The competition’s defending champions, Alagura Football Club (FC), retained their title by defeating Oke-Eletu FC 5-3 in a penalty shootout. The winners received a cash prize of N1,000,000, while the second and third positions received N700,000 and N500,000, respectively.
The event also recognized individual achievements, with Yusuf of Sterling Ipakan FC winning the Best Goalkeeper award and Usman Multala receiving the Highest Goal Scorer Award.
