A non-governmental organisation [NGO] Alimosho Youth Development Association of Nigeria [AYDAN] has kicked off a grassroot awareness and sensitisation campaign on the Covid-19 pandemic, the exercise which started yesterday with a visit to Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA is a drive to sensitize residents of Alimosho LGA.
The exercise which commenced at about 10:34 am with members of the association and other volunteers visiting homes and places that had a good number of people as they sensitize residents on the facts about the pandemic, how to avoid contracting it and ending its spread which includes observing the social distance order, regular and proper washing of hands, reporting any suspicion to appropriate health authorities among others as stipulated by the National Centre for Disease Control [NCDC] and Lagos State government.
The exercise which was interactive saw some of its participant asked questions and express their views on some of the issues surrounding the pandemic and the harsh conditions they are faced with resulting from the stay at home order by the Federal government as majority applauded the initiative taken by the association, there were lamentations on their sufferings from the order.
Some of the participants accused the state government of not having a model for the distribution of its stimulus packages as it was politicised and hijacked by very few whose names were on a purported list hence depriving others from the palliative materials; a development that is very worrisome because the stay-at-home order is been observed by all irrespective of political affiliations.
Observation shows that most of the residents are not adhering to the lockdown order and when asked majority were of the opinion that since there was no provision on the part of the government to cushion the harsh effect of the order keeping them at home, it has become imperative for them to come out in search of daily bread to feed their families.
The exercise lasted till about 2:47pm with the distribution of hand sanitizers to some of the residents as AYDAN president Comrade Ogungbade Olawalr Lateef noted that the train will move to another LCDA next week to be selected by its executive while appealing to well-meaning residents for supports or partnership to providing protective and palliative materials for those that can’t afford them and to help in achieving the aims of the order.
He concluded by giving out his contact number and that of some executive members for such donations. 08037474271, General Secretary Ogbeni Thanni Kamil 09056923934, Welfare Director, Miss Glory Olakunle 08164488231 or the Assistant General Secretary Comrade Mubarak 08058515292.
