An Ilorin Magistrate’s court has directed the remand of 13 individuals suspected of involvement in the killing of the Olukoro of Koro in Kwara State, Oba Segun Aremu. The suspects, charged with offenses including criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, kidnapping, and providing false information, were ordered to be remanded at a Correctional Centre.
The accused, named as Godwin Jacob, Olowofela Oyebanji, Adefalolu Ayodele, Tewasie Francis, Babatunde Samuel, Godwin Joseph, Issa Number, and Miracle Solomon, along with Abraham Kehinde, Muhammed Bello, Muhammed Muhammed, Ahmadu Umaru, and Muhammed Dankai, were brought before the court.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), the case was reported by Aremu Simon Adeyemi to the Eruku Police Division. Adeyemi detailed that the suspects, upon noticing his presence around his grandson, ordered him to follow them at gunpoint. As Adeyemi challenged them, his grandson managed to escape through the backdoor while the suspects proceeded to kill the monarch, kidnapping his wife and another individual named Mercy.
Abdullah Sanni, the police prosecutor, presented the motion exparte attached to the police report, urging the court to remand the suspects. In response, Magistrate Monisola Kamson ruled in favor of the motion, ordering the remand of the suspects at a Federal Correctional Centre. The case has been adjourned to March 5, 2024.
