Following the confirmation of the first case of Coronavirus in Nigeria, the Lagos State government has assured Lagosians not to panic as the state’s disease hospital is well equipped to handle outbreaks.
The Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat who was on a television program monitored in Lagos today said the outbreak was from an Italian who arrived the country on February 26th 2020 and proceeded to Ewekoro in Ogun state where he runs a consultancy services and took ill the next day.
The doctors suspicion of his return and sudden illness prompted them to call the emergency center where and ambulance with a jacket was sent to pick him to the dedicated dieses hospital in Yaba, tests were carried out and the result come out in about four hours instead of the usually estimated eight hours.
While noting on the readiness of the hospital with a hundred bed capacity, he hopes that the situation will not degenerate beyond its present level as efforts are in top gear to tracking and monitoring those that have come in contact with the victim within the period of his arrival.
He reiterated that the danger of the virus is if one does not know that he/she has it and urge anyone with likely symptoms linked to the virus should quickly contact the dieses hospital for prompt action, while affirming that the victim is now stable and responding to treatment according to the latest doctors report on him.
