Eagle Crime Awareness and Prevention Initiative paid a courtesy call to the Chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, HonourableMorenike Adeshina Williams to acquaint her on their objectives and the need to partner with each Local Government towards creating the desired awareness on crime prevention and their campaign” Know Your Neighbour”. The president of the NGO Supol Samuel Eniola Adam was cornered by our Publisher Mr Abel Lazarus and our Reporter Miss Scholar Dike to get a first-hand knowledge of their mission.

    Excerpt:

    Tell us who you are

My name is Samuel Eniola Adam and by His grace I am the president and founder Eagle Crime Awareness and Prevention Initiative a none governmental organisation working in in conjunction with all the law enforcements in Nigeria

    What is it all about?

Ehm! It is to assist the law Enforcement; we are undercover agency to eradicate the crime together. The Law Enforcement alone cannot do it; we are taking enlightenment to all the people and that’s the reason we are partnering with the Local Government. Some people don’t know the law so we want them to know the law, to interpret the law, to know their rights in Nigeria and that’s why you see a lot of crime going on everywhere. So we are giving enlightenment to everybody both the market people and students in schools

What is the campaign all about?

It is enlightenment. Anti-crime enlightenment, we educate them the disadvantage of crime and the advantage of no crime

There is a slogan on your flier ‘The Police is your friend’. Do you work with the Police?

Yes, we are working in conjunction with the Nigerian Police and not only the Nigerian Police both NDLEA, all the Law Enforcements mostly NAFDAC. So we have all the endorsement with them in partnership, to collaborate together to work because they don’t have enough staff to go on enlightenment awareness campaign to people, that’s why we now come in together to form this organisation and get endorsement from them. Police is your friend, many people see the Police as a bad organization so we are trying to reduce and rebrand the name of the Nigerian Police

Of recent there has been increase rate among the Police Men what would you say to that?

See! Even the Apostles of Jesus Christ… there was Judas; same with the Police and what they need is enlightenment, to educate them and you let them know that doing these things will not help you it is not until you commit crime before you can become somebody in life, do you understand? And that’s why we are giving the enlightenment; there is lack of enlightenment in the system. You can never see the Nigerian Police coming out to do house, public or enlighten themselves you will only see them in five minutes meeting and then they go out for their duty by the time you give them enlightenment you make them know the disadvantage of this thing.

How long have you being in existence?

    For two years now

Has there being any major breakthrough?

    Yes. Sorry but that’s official
The current acting C.P. of Lagos State is interested in community police what role is your NGO playing towards that?

I think they had workshop yesterday
I was with AIG together with VC in a round table discussion on how we can work together I think what they need is enlightenment let them know about this crime that is going on. We have fliers here ‘operation know your neighbour’ so we want to carry students, SDG Chairmen and everybody along with this campaign not the law enforcement alone because only the law enforcement cannot do the job and there is no provision for them to do the job, so its enlightenment. The only person I know that did it one certain is the EFCC three months ago when they came out and did some enlightenment, they did it for themselves but this one is not limited to only EFCC forum because there are so many crimes going on in Nigeria. Everybody is afraid to come to the Nigerian Police station to report any case, we have to enter the streets, Landlords and Landladies let everyone know what they are doing for a living.

As a retired Police officer what do you have to say about the slogan ‘bail is free’ everybody is conversant with it, how true is that?

Bail is free, that campaign has to go wide, and you know everybody don’t have this type of your phone to go online and read, secondly you need to be friend with your D.P.O. he (DPO) is the chief security of you division and if you go to any division you will see it is stated there. If you are not satisfied with anything please confront him. So we are the one corrupting the Nigerian Police if you refuse to give them any money they will not be corrupt but because you give them they corrupt and they cannot force you if you don’t give them

What qualifies one to be a member of your NGO?

Everything is free, we do our screening; we still carry out undercover investigation to know the person before you can be a qualified member. So what we are working on is integrity not only being a member.
