The finals of Hon. Jimoh Ajao quiz and composition writing competition organized by Koleade Memorial Foundation in conjunction with Igando-Ikotun LCDA came to climax on Thursday as the five finalist filed out to answer questions from English Language, Mathematics and Current Affairs. The pupils seemed more prepared at this stage when compared with their performances during the preliminary stage the previous day.
Like every other competition a winner must emerge and this was the case as Obadore Community Primary School came tops of the five schools as the winner of the hundred thousand naira prize money followed by Community Primary School Ijegun and Community Primary School II, Ikotun in second and third position respectively which also got the sum of fifty thousand and thirty thousand Naira respectively.
The event attracted classes of dignitaries within Igando-Ikotun LCDA and beyond from educational, political and business sectors also had the current One-Day Governor Master Sonoiki Idowu Ifeoluwa in attendance, who became a role model to the pupils as they were urged to aspire being nominated to such position in the nearest future.
In her speech the chief host Honourable Morenike Adeshina Williams congratulated all the participants and urged them not to relent or feel bad for not emerging the winners but to further put in more efforts in their studies to enable them stand out.
The man of the occasion was Honourable Jimoh Ajao, former Special Adviser to the governor,for Vice Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, a political leader and a philanthropist in whose honour the event was. He said he would not have been in any other occasion other than this as he noted that he started like each of the pupils and reminded the pupils that he agreed to the event because it is about their foundation for the future, noting that once the foundation is right the sky will be their limit. He urged them to be more serious with their education as the future would portend a good for each of them.
The initiator of the event and the founder of Koleade Memorial Foundation; Mr Kola Akeem Koeade, said the essence of the foundation is to continually add value to humanity, adding that the foundation identified that the only way to ensure that limited resources goes round is through events such as this that; aim to affect many pupils. He also used the opportunity to thank the leaders of Alimosho and those of Igando-Ikotun LCDA for the privilege.
The local government Education Secretary Mrs Alamu expressed joy for the success of the maiden edition of the quiz and composition writing competition which she said would further improve on the achievements made so far on education as the local government is currently has the best Secretary of Education award. She also thanked the leadership of Honourable Morenike Adeshinaa Williams on her demonstrated commitment to the improvement on education within the LCDA.
The Secretary to the Local Government Comrade Lasisi Akinsaya praised all the pupils and urge those that did not win prizes not to feel demoralized noting that all of them were winners and that there was room for their improvement.
The Supervisory Councillor on Education Comrade Babatunde Alani said he was pleased with the achievements made in less than one month in office which he also ascribed to the supportive leadership of the Executive Chairman of the LCDA Honourable Morenike Adeshina Williams who he said has demonstrated her resolution to take the standard of education in the LCDA to the greatest heights. He reiterated that the rivalry between the public and private schools was being nurtured, noting that it would be a healthy one that would bring the standard of education within the LCDA to its peak.
He further asked parents and residents to desist from believing that public schools are for the poor or less-privileged in the society. He noted he attended public schools from primary to tertiary levels. He pledged to make the next edition more competitive so as to attract more participation from various sectors.
The climax of the occasion was the presentation of prizes to the winners and recognition awards to personalities. First was to the winners of the composition; Yusuf Ismail of Community Primary School I, Ijegun took the first position with an undisclosed cash prize, Emmanuella came second while Nofisat came third and was represented by her teacher as she was unavoidably absentee. This was followed by cash presentation to the schools.
There was recognition for special performances which had three students rewarded with the value of Common Entrance fee, the prize was for them to have their Common Entrance examination fee to be paid or refunded by the organizers but when the Secretary on Education highlighted that all public school pupils are to enjoy free Common Entrance fee within Lagos State; the organizers were left with no option but to redeem the cash prizes.
The awardees on different categories included the Local Government Chairman, Honourable Morenike Adeshna Williams, Honourable Jimo Ajao, Lagos Television Authority, Comrade Lasisi Akinsanya, Mrs Alamu, Honourable Olawale Azeez and the HRM Oba of Igando amongst others.
The Vice Chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, Honourable Prince Dada in his closing remarks thanked everyone that made the event a success and prayed for greater wisdom to move the LCDA even to a greater heights.
The Supervisory Councillor on Agriculture Evangelist Bolarinwa prayed for God’s grace upon the LCDA, Lagos State and the entire nation.
