It was a sad incident on Friday evening when a woman simply identified as Fausat lost her son when returning home from their daily routine.
The woman was said to be backing her son on a motorcycle from Igando to Ayobo plying one of the wooden bridges linking the two communities. The bridge was said to have caved as a result of its dilapidated state, she and her son fell into the canal, passersby came to their rescue, but her son was unlucky as he could not be found in the canal, the infant has been probably flushed away by the pressured contaminated water in the canal.
According to eye an witness who gave the account of the incident; the woman was said to be backing her son when they fell into the canal in her quest for survival apparently her clothes loosed and the baby fell of her back and could not be traced when rescue came for them, all efforts to trace the child proved abortive.
It will be recalled that The Alimosho Mail in its previous publications narrated the inherent dangers from these bridges. Alimosho LGA has remained one of the communities in Lagos state, with the highest number of wooden bridges owned by private individuals with little or no maintenance at all, these bridges have been linking Igando and Ayobo- Ipaja communities for decades.
When The Alimosho Mail visited the home of the grieving young mother for a first hand details we were told to allow her relax, due to the tragedy.
The matter is said to have been reported to Ayobo Police divisional headquarters where the motorcyclist is been detained may be for a thorough investigation.
Efforts made in reaching the DPO in order to confirm the detention of the motorcyclist hasn’t been fruitful.
