On Thursday, a recent assault by suspected bandits resulted in the tragic death of 10 individuals and injuries to several others in Kukar Babangida village, situated in the Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Among the victims was Zauren Katsina, the Village Head of Kukar Babangida, and his four biological children.
According to reports from residents communicated to Channels Television via a telephone call, the attackers infiltrated the village during the early hours of Thursday at 1:30 am, catching most residents unaware in their deep slumber.
The village, home to approximately 6,000 people, primarily comprising farmers and herders, has been grappling with banditry-related challenges since the inception of such criminal activities in the state.
“Even within the week, two bandit attacks were recorded in the Jibia Local Government Council. One of the attacks occurred along the Jibia-Batsari axis, and the other was carried out in the heart of Jibia town itself, resulting in the loss of lives with each of these incidents,” a resident disclosed.
As of the time of filing this report, the Katsina State Police Command had yet to respond to the attack, and numerous attempts to reach the Command’s Spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, via phone calls remained unanswered.
