The security challenge that follows the emergence of Coronavirus pandemic; code name Covid 19 and the subsequent lockdown orders have further stretched the security architecture of the entire world with Nigeria bearing its brunt, with the Police most vulnerable owing to its civic responsibilities of maintaining law and order, protecting of lives and properties of citizens which prompted new directives from the Inspector General of Police IGP Mohamed Abubarkar Adamu in mitigating these challenges. The men of the Police Force deserve accolades despite the handful activities of its few overzealous personnel.
For Ayobo Police Divisional Command, its tasks are more endearing owing to its jurisdiction covering border communities with neighboring Ogun state, the task of enforcing the ban on interstate traveling order has become cumbersome owing to the inter-relationship of the two states where majority of its border towns residents are owners of businesses and workers in Lagos state. The command under the leadership of Divisional Police Officer [DPO] Gogo Philips has continually maintained its watch day and night in making sure that compliance is maintained through its intelligent policing methodologies.
The men of the command have continuously proffered means of identifying those residents that own businesses and work within Lagos state while strictly maintaining the order and denying those trying to breach the order under this guise. Its daily routine patrolling within the nooks and crannies of the Ayobo communities have yielded immense policing results going by the earlier incidences witnessed from the marauders nick named One-Million Boys which almost unsettled the communities at the inception of the lockdown order.
Also the enforcement of the 6:00 am -8:00pm curfew is another feet the command has achieved within its jurisdiction as Ayobo communities continually observe the order while few of the outlaws are matched with the provisions of the law. The total clampdown on the operations of motor cyclists popularly known as Okada riders have remained at a great degree through its proactive measures.
The Alimosho Mail Newspaper and online wishes to use this medium to applaud these efforts of men and officers of Ayobo Divisional Police Command while urging them not to relent and appeal to residents to understand that security is everyone’s responsibility and the need to support the Police with information of suspected breach of peace and order.
