The Association of Practitioners of Community Media in Nigeria (APCOM) is organizing an event to discuss the implications of the Supreme Court’s judgement on Local Government Area (LGA) autonomy. The event, scheduled for July 27th, 2024, at 4 pm, aims to explore the gains of the judgement and the roles of community media practitioners in promoting grassroots governance.
Renowned speakers, including Hon. Kehinde Bamgbetan, former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Lagos State, Barrister Maxwell Opara, Mr Austin Ejeke, and Odion Aleobua, will lead the discussion. They will share insights on how the judgement can strengthen community media and promote democratic governance at the local level.
The event, tagged “X Space,” will provide a platform for community media practitioners to engage with experts and stakeholders on the opportunities and challenges presented by the Supreme Court’s judgement. APCOM believes that community media has a critical role to play in promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in local governance.
By exploring the gains of LGA autonomy and the roles of community media practitioners, the event aims to contribute to the deepening of democracy and the empowerment of local communities in Nigeria.
